Taking the Bull by the Horn: Solving Nigeria's Transportation Challenges

April 29, 2022

In Nigeria, transportation is one thing that has been a problem for a long time. Heavy traffic jams, bad roads, periodic petrol scarcity combined with the high cost of vehicle acquisition and maintenance — all make movement difficult. We will discuss what one organisation is doing to solve these transportation challenges. To begin, let’s take a closer look at the problem.

The local challenge

Maybe there are too many cars in a city like Lagos. Traffic jams are as common as the air we breathe in some areas. Large potholes filled with rainwater are the order of the day during the wet season. At bus stops on rainy days, crowds have to wait for long periods of time to find a bus to board. Many people cannot afford to own a car so they have to wait. In recent years, the prices of foreign-used vehicles have skyrocketed. It is very much out of the reach of most people all over Nigeria.

The situation is not much different at the interstate bus terminals. Travellers have to cut their sleep short and wake up as early as 4 or 5 am. They will thereafter need to find their way to the bus terminal of their choice and wait in a long queue just to buy a bus ticket. Next, they will need to remain at the park until it is time for the bus driver to start the trip. Passengers travelling from Lagos to other parts of the country experience this just as those in other states do. A lot of precious time and energy is lost in this difficult process.

There is also the fact that you may be forced to pick any bus company you come across, since you don’t want to have to wait in another long queue to try and get a cheaper ticket. Thankfully, a business has since come up with a solution to all these challenges.

A smart solution

Imagine that you never had to go through the pains of waking up as early as 4 or 5am to catch a bus going to another state. Let us say that you could sleep as much as you want and still be on time to catch a bus going to any state in the country. What if you could sit in the comfort of your home and book a trip in advance from Lagos to Port Harcourt, Owerri to Abuja, for example, all using your smartphone? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could pick the most affordable bus ticket also on your phone? All of this is possible with Transita

When you use the Transita app, you save money, time, and energy. You don’t even have to expose your vehicle to the wear and tear of long distance road trips. Just book a trip on the app and get going.

Modern problems require modern solutions. Using technology to solve our local transportation issues is a big step forward for our tech industry and ultimately for all of us.
